Abigail’s Oven · Spanish Fork, Utah

Sourdough can sometimes seem challenging. Let’s demystify it together.

At Abigail’s Oven, we make sourdough the old-fashioned way: flour, water, salt, a living start, and time.

If you’d like to make it yourself, there’s more than one way to begin. Start free with the numbers. Bring home the same sourdough culture we use at the bakery. Add a short video for your first loaf. Or spend three live days baking with Martha.

Start where you are.

Good sourdough begins with a few simple things: flour, water, salt, a living start, and enough time.

Our free calculator helps you work out the numbers for your loaf, including hydration, temperature, leaven, salt, resting, and folds.

There’s no account required to use it. If you decide to save your preferences, we’ll ask for your email so we can save them and send you tips and offers. Otherwise, just use the tool.

Dehydrated Sourdough Start

If you want to bake with the culture behind Abigail’s Oven bread, we’ll send it to you.

This is dehydrated mother culture from our bakery—the same start used in the bread we bake here. It isn’t commercial yeast and it isn’t a wet jar traveling through the mail.

Wake it up. Feed it. Watch it come alive. Then make it yours.

Care and activation instructions are included. Starts ship Tuesdays; order by Saturday at 5:00 p.m. Mountain for that week’s shipment. Shipping is calculated at checkout.

If your culture doesn’t wake up the way it should, contact us. We’ll help make it right.

3-Day Sourdough Class

October 22–24, 2026 · Live online · $299

For three days, Martha Levie will bake from the Abigail’s Oven kitchen while you bake in yours.

You’ll make three loaves a day—nine loaves in all. But you won’t simply repeat the same recipe nine times.

On Thursday, you’ll change the water. On Friday, you’ll work with warmth. On Saturday, you’ll change the time.

You’ll watch what happens, compare your loaves, and begin learning how to look at a loaf that didn’t quite work and answer: What should I change next time?

You can watch Martha or bake alongside her, with beginning, intermediate, and advanced paths inside the same three days. Recordings stay available if you miss a sitting.

Your $299 seat includes a starter from Abigail’s Oven, live YouTube instruction with chat, recordings, written steps, prepare-ahead videos, a materials list, the recipe calculator if you need it, and an evening room with Martha and Allen.

The starter for the class is already included with your seat. You do not need to buy the $19 start separately.

Contact us before the class begins for a full refund.

Let’s walk these nine loaves together. Then you can tweak it for your perfect sourdough.

This bakery

From our bakery to your kitchen.

Abigail started selling bread with a red wagon. From there, our family built Abigail’s Oven in Spanish Fork, Utah, where we still bake Dutch-oven sourdough today.

We love making bread for people. We also love the moment when someone realizes they can make it themselves.

You don’t need every tool on this page to begin. You don’t need a class before you’re allowed to bake. And you don’t need to know everything about sourdough before you put flour and water in a bowl.

Start with what helps. Then bake a loaf.

A few questions

Before you begin

Is the calculator really free?

Yes. You can use the AO Recipe and Hydration Calculator without creating an account. If you want to save your preferences, we’ll ask for your email.

What’s the difference between the $19 start and the $29 bundle?

The $19 option is our dehydrated sourdough mother culture with care and activation instructions. The $29 bundle includes 10g of that culture plus a short quick-start video to give you more help getting to your first loaf.

Is the $29 bundle the 3-Day Sourdough Class?

No. The quick-start video is short help for getting started. The 3-Day Sourdough Class is a separate live experience October 22–24 in which you bake nine loaves with Martha.

Does the 3-Day Class include a sourdough start?

Yes. A starter from Abigail’s Oven is included with the $299 class seat, so you do not need to buy the $19 start separately for the class.

What about shipping?

The calculator is digital and free. The $19 start and $29 bundle are physical products, and shipping is calculated at checkout. They ship Tuesdays; order by Saturday at 5:00 p.m. Mountain for that week’s shipment. The 3-Day Class has its own fulfillment: your class starter is included with your seat and is timed to arrive before class.

I already have a healthy sourdough start. Where should I begin?

Use the free calculator if you want help with the numbers. If you want more hands-on learning, go directly to the 3-Day Class. There’s no reason to buy another start unless you want ours too.

What if I enroll in the class and change my mind?

Contact us before the class begins for a full refund.
